The house is too big and too empty as it watches over the widow crouching in the corner of the emptiest room of all. Her hands tremble as tears trickle along her veins and fall silently onto the hardwood floor.
In the garden, the sun burns the back of the little girl in the white dress with the blue satin sash as she slides off the swing, walks past the front door, up the creaking stairs, and into Grandpa's room.
Her tiny hands gently stroke the heaving back of the older woman.
"Don't cry, Grandma. Grandpa's just gone to heaven."
